The honest answer: the better question isn’t “what does the machine cost” — it’s “what does the machine produce?” The lowest purchase price rarely creates the lowest cost per part.
A machine that runs faster, cuts setups, finishes complete in one operation, holds tighter accuracy, and runs lights-out can return far more over its life than a cheaper machine that can’t. The price gap is usually paid back in throughput, often quickly.

So the real comparison isn’t sticker vs. sticker. It’s cost vs. return over every shift the machine runs.
Through the parts it adds every hour, every shift, every year. Faster cycle times create capacity without adding machines, operators, or floor space — and combining operations removes handling, work-in-process, and inspection between steps.
When a part that took multiple machines and operators runs complete on one machine with one operator, the saved labor and lead time — not the sticker price — is where the return lives.

Fewer setups and fewer part-to-part transfers also mean fewer chances for error, so quality and consistency tend to rise alongside output.
A quoted cycle time on one operation isn’t the same as finished-part cost. If the cheaper machine needs more setups, more handling, more labor, or a second operation to complete the part, the lower price doesn’t produce the lower cost.
The fair comparison is the total: cycle time plus setups, operations, operator time, scrap, and uptime across a year of production. That’s exactly what a time study on your real part will show — in numbers, side by side.
